Plants Grown from Organic Seed

Mortgage Lifter – Radiator Charlie’s

$5.00

Heirloom, Organic Seed

82 Days.  A great heirloom developed by M.C. Byles in the 1930s. The large, slightly flattened, pink-red fruits can range from 1 to more than 3 pounds. Fruit is meaty, very flavorful with few tomato seeds. Grown from organic seed stock.

The story is just as wonderful as the tomato…

Mr. Byles, affectionately known as “Radiator Charlie” earned his nickname from the radiator repair business he opened at the foot of a steep hill on which trucks would often overheat. Radiator Charlie, who had no formal education or plant breeding experience, created this legendary tomato by cross-breeding four of the largest tomatoes he was able to find and developed a stable variety after six years of pollination and selection. He then sold his heirloom tomato plants for one dollar each (in the 1940s) and paid off the six thousand dollar mortgage on his house in six years. It is said that each spring, gardeners drove as far as 200 miles to buy Charlie’s seedling tomatoes.

Wait, so how does this whole ordering plants online thing work?Spoiler: it's easier than trying to start tomatoes indoors yourself! 😉If you're new to ordering from us, welcome! Here's how it works:1️⃣ You shop now (January -April). Pick your plants (early birds get the best selection before they're gone), place your order, feel the gardening hope flood your veins.🌱2️⃣ We grow it all for you. You skip the seed-starting chaos. We handle the lights, the heat, potting up, and the occasional pep talk.🌼3️⃣ You pick up your plants in early May from our greenhouse when the weather is finally tolerable and you can plant without frost ruining your life choices.🥶4️⃣ You plant them and feel like a hero. Because you are. Nothing beats homegrown. ❤️Your future garden awaits 🍅 ➡️Shop link in bio or https://thecoeurdalenecoop.com/shop ... See MoreSee Less
