An Outstanding Heirloom from 1900

90 days.  Grow a little history. Greater Baltimore was developed from a single plant selection made about 1900 by John Baer of Baltimore, Maryland. It was very popular and remained an important variety in the canning regions well into the twentieth century. In the late 1950s, Baltimore was second in the nation for the production of canned tomatoes, of which Greater Baltimore played a role. Uniform, flattened globed red fruit weigh in at about 6 ounces. The flavor is mild and low-acid, but not sweet. Perfect size and shape for canning, but don’t overlook eating fresh or in salsas! This 125 year old variety is not commonly available.  Indeterminate.

We had a rough start, but such nice medium sized red flattened tomatoes. Very tasty.

I let my chickens do the pumpkin carving this year I let my chickens do the pumpkin carving this year. They may have been a bit over zealous about the task at hand, err, beak. 🤣 Spooky, nonetheless.
